ABOUT US

Charlie’s Place is a ministry and outreach program of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, which was founded 1894 and has been in its present location since 1895. The congregation began Charlie’s Place in 1990 as a non-denominational program to address hunger and provide vital services to people experiencing homelessness in the surrounding neighborhoods of Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights in Washington, D.C.

Centered around the breakfast provided on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, Charlie’s Place’s services help our neighbors to address the social, emotional and health impacts of homelessness.

Our Core Values

Although Charlie’s Place is housed at a church, our focus is social needs and not religious ones. Charlie’s Place takes special care to serve all people of any race, age, gender, background, faith, and sexual orientation without judgment or evangelization of any kind. It seeks to be a warm, safe spot where people, no matter who they are, can feel welcome.

We work intentionally to build a strong foundation and restore community with the people living here. This requires listening, walking with, and remaining humble in our efforts. It also involves steadfastness in our focus not to perpetuate our existence but to remain relevant to the community's needs.

Our core values guide how we operate:

  • We create relationships based on trust.

  • We create the highest value possible with our resources.

  • We cut through the complexity in all our processes.

  • We engage in transparent collaboration.
