The beloved Floor Coordinator of Charlie's Place, John Williams, has happily retired.
John served Charlie's Place faithfully since October 2014 — nearly 12 years of early mornings, heavy lifting, and quiet, steady presence on the front lines of the St. Margaret's ministry with neighbors experiencing homelessness.
Those who have volunteered alongside him know exactly what made John irreplaceable: his calm under pressure, his non-anxious presence in even the most challenging moments, and his deep, genuine love for the community members he served every week. He was not just a staff member. He was an advocate. A stabilizing force. A model of compassionate ministry in action.
John's last official day was April 30, and Charlie's Place made sure he knew how cherished he is. Volunteers and community members gathered on a recent Saturday to wish him well — and on his final Thursday, they surprised him with a cake, gifts, and an outpouring of affection.
On May 31, at the conclusion of the Sunday morning worship service, the congregation of St. Margaret's thanked John for his service and bade him farewell. Worshipers that morning also celebrated his service with a cake during the time of socializing following the service. (See photos below.)
