Accountable to: Charlie’s Place Program Director Part-Time, Non-Exempt Position (Fair Labor Standards Act classification)
POSITION SUMMARY: The Floor Coordinator ensures the smooth daily operations of the Charlie’s Place breakfast program. This part-time role involves setting up and maintaining the program space, supporting guests and volunteers, and ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for all participants. The program starts at 6:00 a.m., and the tasks include heavy lifting and active cleaning.
COMPENSATION: $18–$24 per hour, commensurate with experience. This is a part-time, non-exempt position averaging 20 hours per week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and Saturdays, 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Set-up & Clean-Up
Prepare program space by 6:00 a.m., including setting up tables and chairs.
Place and retrieve the menu board sign daily.
Clean program areas after closing, including sweeping, scrubbing, vacuuming, mopping, collecting and disposing of trash, and maintaining bathrooms.
Program Support:
Assist staff and volunteers during the program to meet guests’ needs.
Maintain a visible and supportive presence in the program area to ensure safety and smooth operations.
Donations & Inventory
Receive and organize incoming donations.
Assist in tracking and maintaining food and supply inventories, as well as restocking of pantry.
Other Duties as Assigned
Adapt to evolving program needs in collaboration with the Program Director.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Core Competencies
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Basic knowledge of homelessness, including substance abuse and mental health issues, with a willingness to learn.
Professionalism, flexibility, and ability to work as part of a team.
Self-motivation and reliability.
Qualifications
Commitment to working with people experiencing homelessness.
Knowledge of food preparation is helpful but not required.
Spanish fluency is desirable but not required.
Work Environment
St. Margaret’s is a 125-year-old facility with stairs and no elevator. Located along Connecticut Avenue, NW, it is subject to visitor, neighborhood, automobile, and maintenance equipment noise.
Physical Requirements
Ability to speak and interact effectively in person and via phone or video conferencing.
Ability to push or lift up to 50 pounds to handle program supplies and cleaning duties.
Ability to stand during program activities or for prolonged periods; ability to carry out frequent bending, stooping, and reaching; adequate vision to see potential hazards.
Ability to navigate stairs within the church facility.
